Prof. Baolian Yi born in Liaoyang City (Liaoning Province) in 1938, graduated from Jilin University in 1962, acquired his MS degree from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics(DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)in 1966 and became a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2003. He is also working in Fuel Cell R&D Center at DICP as a chief engineer and Dalian Sunrise Power Co. Ltd. as a board chairman.
Baolian Yi has been working on the research and development of fuel cells which convert chemical energy in fuels into electric energy and related fields since 1970's with the emphasis of fuel cell technologies. He researched on AFC for space application in 1970's, and conducted fuel cell technique to aqueous solution electrolysis industry and electrochemical sensors in 1980's. During 1990's, he initiated the researches on PEMFC, MCFC and SOFC sponsored by National Key Technologies R&D Program and several key Knowledge Innovation Programs of CAS on fuel cell technologies as a principle scientist. Under his guidance, major breakthroughs on PEMFC researches were made and a series of technologies with intellectual property rights were developed. Now he is organizing the researches on 30~100kW fuel cell generators for National Key Technologies R&D Program in 10th Five-Year Plan of China together with other colleagues who serve for Fuel Cell R&D Center and Sunrise Power Co. Ltd.
Professor Yi acquired seven awards from nation, ministry of China and Liaoning province, and more than 50 patents and 120 papers have been published, submitted and pended. His monograph named as "Fuel Cell ¨C Principle, Technology and Application" was published in Chinese in 2003. As an advisor, he supervised more than 30 graduates for M.S. or Ph.D degree and post- doctors.
