Prof. XU Guowang is included in The Power List 2019

Recently it was announced that Prof. XU Guowang, a professor of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was placed on the Power List 2019 -- as one of the top 100 most influential figures in analytical sciences from around the world.

The list, based on worldwide nominations, was published in The Analytical Scientist. It showcased a tremendous range of talent, ingenuity and leadership from all corners of analytical science on a global scale. A total of four analytical scientists from Chinese universities or institutes were included on the list.

Prof. XU’s main research fields are in chromatography-mass spectrometry -- or MS -- and metabolomics. He has established a series in multi-dimensional chromatography to satisfy different analytical requirements. Recently, he focused his research direction on a metabolomics technology platform based on chromatography-mass spectrometry and its applications in disease biomarker discovery, traditional Chinese medicines and food safety.

He is one of the pioneers in the field of metabolomics in China and in the world. Focused on addressing the technical challenges in chromatography and MS-based metabolomics -- such as comprehensive, high-throughput, robust, sensitive semi-quantitative analysis and the unambiguous elucidation of structures for unknown metabolic biomarkers, among other things -- his lab has developed the world’s leading platforms of metabolomics and lipidomics.

Guowang was the pioneer in proposing pseudotargeted metabolomics and modified metabolomics methods. His kit on plasma/serum glycocholate LC-MS analysis has been licensed by Zhejiang province branch of the FDA of China and is allowed to be applied in the clinical area.(Text by WANG Ting)
