International Project Office of Climate Variability and Predictability(CLIVAR) Visits RV KEXUE
Director of International CLIVAR Project Office, World Climate Research Program (WCRP), Dr. Valery Detemmerman, and Senior Scientist Dr. Nico Caltabiano leading a delegation composed of 10 staffs visited RV KEXUE on August 24th, 2015. Vice director of IOCAS, WANG Fan, Academician HU Dunxin and related officers from RV Operation and Management Center greeted the guests.
Party Secretary of IOCAS WANG Fan introduced the general situation of IOCAS in the view of history, research field, scientific achievement and education. The guests were shown various laboratories onboard and learnt in detail about the ship performance, device configuration and the expedition ability. After the visit, Dr. Valery Detemmerman said he was deeply impressed by the advanced and well-equipped RV KEXUE and hoped to have the opportunity in the future to conduct extensive exchanges and cooperation in terms of marine research.
World Climate Research Program (WCRP) was established in 1980, under the joint sponsorship of International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization, and has also been sponsored by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO since 1993. The main objectives of this program is to develop the fundamental scientific understanding of the physical climate system. CLIVAR is one of the four core projects of WCRP. Its purpose is to describe and understand climate variability and predictability on seasonal to centennial time-scales, identify the physical processes responsible for climate change and develop modeling and predictive capabilities for climate modelling.
