Prof. William J. Weber from University of Tennessee Visits IMR
The recipient of 2014 Lee Hsun Lecture Series—Lecture Award, Prof. William J. Weber of University of Tennessee, visited Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS) from May 31st to June 2nd, 2015.
In the ceremony of Lee Hsun Lecture Series, Prof. Weber gave a lecture entitled “On the Role of Electronic Energy Loss on Radiation Damage in Materials”.
During the visit, Prof. Weber had a deep discussion with research group of High-performance Ceramics Division, IMR CAS. Both side approved the cooperation in the research of new system exploration for nuclear energy application advanced ceramics, radiation resistance performance and its optional designing.
Prof. Weber joined the staff of PNNL in 1977 and he is in charge of the research in radiation effects, ion-solid interactions, and defects in ceramics since 2010. Prof. Weber’s career research encompasses experimental and theoretical aspects of the interaction of radiation and charged-particles with solids, irradiation effects in solids, ion-beam and electron-beam modification of materials, defects and defect/property relationships in ceramics, role of electronic excitations in radiation effects and phase transformations in ceramics, long-term performance of nuclear waste materials, physics of radiation detectors, electronic and ionic transport, properties of nanostructures, high-temperature superconductivity, advanced materials for solid-oxide fuel cells, micromechanical behavior, microstructural characterization, and ceramic synthesis. He was honored many awards like the Fellow of American Ceramic Society in 2000, Fellow of American Physical Society in 2010 and Fellow of Material Research in 2008, etc..
