Professor Liu Shaojun from Central South University Visited SIA

Upon the invitation of Ocean Engineering Department, Professor Liu Shaojun from Central South University of China visited Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on May 27th, 2014.
During the visit, Liu made a report named International Seabed Situation and Deep Sea Resources Exploitation Capability Construction at the Robot Frontier Academic Forum. In the report, Liu outlined the background and status quo of deep sea resource exploitation, the necessity and feasibility of developing deep sea equipment, as well as the strategic goals of building up the exploitation capability. He specifically introduced the occurrence forms, exploitation value and technical requirements of different deep sea mineral resources such as polymetallic nodules, cobalt-rich crusts and polymetallic sulfides, etc.
After the report, Sang Zigang, deputy director of SIA granted the Robot Frontier Academic Forum certificate to Liu.
Liu obtained a doctor’s degree of Engineering from the Nagoya University in Japan. He now serves as a professor in Central South University of Chin. He is also a member of IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society, member of International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE), the chief scientist under China’s “10th Five-year Plan” Deep Sea Technological Development Program of the China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association (COMRA).
