Prof. Mauricio Terrones, from the Pennsylvania State University, Awarded with LEE HSUN Lecture Series
Prof. Mauricio Terrones of the Pennsylvania State University visited IMR as the recipient of 2013 LEE HSUN Lecture Series - Lecture Award from May 14 to May 16, 2014.
On the Ceremony of LEE HSUN Lecture Series, Prof. Terrones delivered a lecture entitled “Controlling Defects and Morphology of Nanotubes and Graphene during Growth: The Role of Dopants”. He described the synthesis of carbon nanotubes and nanotube networks using different dopants during chemical vapor deposition. In particular, he discussed the effects of sulfur, boron and nitrogen, and found that these dopants were responsible for significant changes in the nanotube morphology and electronic properties. He also discussed the synthesis of large-area, high-quality nitrogen- and boron-doped monolayer graphene sheets on Cu foils using ambient-pressure chemical vapor deposition. After the lecture, Prof. Terrones visited Non-equilibrium Metallic Materials Division and Advanced Carbon Division of Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL) and discussed with faculty members and students on carbon nanotubes and graphene materials.
Prof. Mauricio Terrones is the director of Center for 2D and Layered Materials, The Pennsylvania State University. He has been working on nanoscience, in particular on fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and 2D nanomaterials since 1992. Prof. Mauricio Terrones makes notable contributions in experimental and theoretical nanoscience evidenced not only by the publication of more than 300 papers in refereed journals and book chapters (including 4 in Nature, 5 in Science, but also by having, as of May 2013, more than 15,000 (Hindex = 67).
