Introduction

The Shenyang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is a regional branch of CAS, primarily responsible for guiding and supervising its affiliated institutions in implementing the decisions and deployments of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the requirements of the CAS leadership. It also oversees the Party construction and discipline inspection work of its affiliated institutions and provides comprehensive support services for these units.

The Shenyang Branch system comprises 10 research institutes: the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, the Institute of Metal Research, the Institute of Applied Ecology, the Shenyang Institute of Automation, the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology (including the Agricultural Technology Center), the Institute of Oceanology, the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, and the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research. It also includes two fully restructured companies: Shenyang Institute of Computing Technology Co., Ltd. and SKY Technology Development Co., Ltd., as well as one observatory: the Changchun Observatory ,National Astronomical Observatories.

The Shenyang Branch system currently operates 37 major innovation platforms, including one national research center, eight national key laboratories, three key laboratories of CAS, one major national science and technology infrastructure, 10 national field observation stations, five national engineering technology research centers, and nine national engineering research centers.

As of the end of 2024, the system has 12,062employees, 1,190 postdoctoral researchers, and 7,531 registered graduate students.
