Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), attached to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was founded in 1958. As an important research institution in China, SIA has fulfilled more than 1,000 scientific research items since its establishment, and has been the winners of more than 200 prizes including the National Science and Technology Progress Prizes, CAS Science and Technology Progress Prizes, and other prizes offered by the Ministries, and by provincial and municipal governments. SIA has obtained a batch of R&D results with the world advanced level and with self-owned intellectual property in underwater robots and industrial robots. And now it has become a national R&D base with higher celebrity in the world.

　  The institute occupies an area of more than 70,000 m², and currently has more than 500 employees, of whom more than 400 are academic and technical personnel, and more than 50% are senior faculty members. Among the academic and technical personnel, more than 33% have master's or doctorial degrees. The institute has 4 subjects (including mechatronic engineering, pattern recognition and intelligent system, control theory and control engineering, computer applied technology) conferring master's degrees, 2 subjects (including mechatronic engineering, pattern recognition and intelligent system) conferring doctoral degrees, and 1 discipline (i.e., mechatronic engineering) for post-doctoral fellow mobile station.
