SIA Researcher Granted Newton Fund

Liu Jinguo, researcher from Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has been granted the Newton Fund support, according to Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom. This is the first time that SIA has successfully won financial support from the academy.

Under the fund, Liu Jinguo and Professor Gao Yang from University of Surrey will jointly conduct research on space robot, based on space robotic technology of SIA and small satellite technology of University of Surrey.

The Newton Fund is a £375 million fund (£75 million a year for 5 years starting 2014/15). Through the Newton Fund, the UK will use its strength in research and innovation to promote the economic development and social welfare of partner countries. Its aim is to develop science and innovation partnerships that promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries. In the first years of the Fund it is expected to run in 15 countries: China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Turkey, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Egypt and Kazakhstan.
