Recently, DNL0302 group has tested new tubular solid oxide fuel cell stack. The stack is installed with 60 tubular cells and generates 3 kW electric power. The average open circuit voltage exceeds 1.0 V, and the average cell power exceeds 50 W. The success in the stack test reflects good uniformity of tubular cells, uniform gas flow distribution in stack and effectively collecting of large current, which verifies the processes for high power stack. Solid oxide fuel cells can utilize a variety of gases such as natural gas, syngas and bio-gas as fuel, attain electrical efficiency as high as 65% and overall energy efficiency over 90% and greatly suppress emission. Solid oxide fuel cells have large potential applications in distributed and centralized power generation and are regarded as a disruptive technology in energy production and consumption. The research on solid oxide fuel cell at DICP is focused on tubular solid oxide fuel cell technology. The present research on tubular stack is supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program)].(By Zhe Zhao and Baofeng Tu)
