In the period of Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, 2009, Symposium on Educational Methods in Materials Science for Chinese Universities and Industries was held at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR CAS). The co-chairs of the symposium were Prof. Ke Lu, Director of IMR CAS and Prof. David Embury from McMaster University, Canada.

　  The symposium focused on education in materials science, some comparisons of educational methods in western countries and China, and academics and industry. 10 international experts and scholars from Canada, France, UK, USA, Australia and China gave 14 invited presentations. Nearly 100 professors and teachers from 19 universities, 6 research institutes and 2 companies participated in the symposium. In addition, there was a two-hour poster session with 27 posters during the symposium.

　  After the symposium, all the participants were invited to visit SYNL and R&D Center of IMR CAS.
